Tax Return Rewritten

With the archival of the main Tax Return game, a new project has been created in-place of it. This is to make development much smoother, quicker, and cleaner. Not only will this refactor completely change how the game works, it will also optimize the game heavily, remove unused assets, and debloat the project.

The original Tax Return game was over 400MB in-editor, and took almost 5 minutes to compile for each platform. It was shockingly slow on older hardware, and the aesthetic started to slip as the textures were not low-res like the game was designed to be. The maps were blocky, and did not conform to the original ideas I had in mind.

The rewrite aims to be more performant on CPU-only systems (iGPU) and more lenient on file size. I mean, sure, the game's smaller than the average AAA title, but the quality does not match the size. Like, for fuck sakes, the guy walks like he's a hood irony GIF. It's funny, but I don't want it to be funny. I want it to be terrifying. A bit like how Granny used to be the scariest game when you were 9. Instead, this is even scarier because... of taxes.

There will obviously be more updates, but for now, the project's on hold. I have a lot going on, and right now, my calendar is too full to fit "Tax Return" in there. Don't expect much, I guess.

As a note; Tax Return Rewritten will be a completely different project from Tax Return Legacy. It will have its own set of rules, gameplay features, and most likely, will scrap a ton from the original game.

This update will also probably add in modding, meaning verified creators can literally script in new features. Pretty cool.

Once again, there shouldn't be an expectation for this to come out anytime soon. If you were expectimg this to literally drop in 5 seconds, well, there's bigger fish to fry there... I guess.
